How to install Netvue Orb Camera?

Today, we will help you install a Netvue Orb Cam camera. Not that it is difficult, but there may be subtleties to consider. What is the advantage of this type of connected camera working with Alexa? We immediately think of video surveillance of his home as for any connected camera. Indeed, it is equipped with a motion detector and night vision. Alternatively, as it works with Alexa, you can stream it to a spot and listen to if baby is doing well at night. It will depend on where you put it. Oh yes, because even if it is not announced on Amazon, this camera is compatible with Alexa via the application and the Skill Netvue.

Getting started with the camera

The camera is quite small (9.1 cm high and 6.9 cm wide), so it can be placed anywhere. It comes with a USB cable and AC adapter as well as a wall mounting bracket. The cable is about six feet long.

The first thing to do is to download the Netvue application. You will find it on the store of your operating system. Create an account with your email and password (8 characters, including number, letter and capital letters). You will receive an email to activate the account immediately.

Once this is done, you can also activate the Alexa Netvue Live Video skill by using the previously created login and password.

And that’s it, we can now move on to the installation of the camera.

Matching with the Netvue application

It will be necessary to have the camera recognized by the application in order to use it, like a bulb or a plug. It also operates on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. But in principle, the installation is a little more structured than for a bulb.

First, open the Netvue application, press the “+” button, select “indoor cameras” and follow the guide. It will be necessary to scan the QR code behind the camera to detect it and have it taken into account by the application.

Then connect the camera to the mains supply. And here, we will have to be attentive and attentive. First of all, check if the infrared LEDs light up some time after connection. Then go on to the next step, namely to wait for a small chime sound to be emitted (it is still quite loud, eh…).

Then, don’t forget the next step, which is very important. This is the equivalent of flashing the bulbs by turning them off and on again. To do this, press the small button under the camera (no long press, just one pulse). The small green light on the camera will blink very quickly. This will allow you to access a selection page of your network.

But it’s not finished, it will now be worth finalizing the camera’s recognition by making it detect a QR code that will appear on your smartphone screen (press it to put it in full screen). This can be quite painful, so make sure you put the light on to make it easier to detect. If this works, a beep will be heard, so be patient and do not remove the phone from in front of the camera before the sound… The camera will then connect to the router. Wait for the camera to make a nice music (if it is a type of alarm, there is a network connection error, wrong password or other). If this is the case, it is because it is well connected to Wifi and will then connect directly with Netvue. It’s almost over! The last step will be to name your camera.

On the other hand, if you have this screen when you press the camera playback button, it may be due to a network problem that is a little too weak to allow you to display the video. The solutions will consist either in changing the network if you have several, or putting a Wi-Fi Mesh system… But in any case, even if it is possible to change the Wi-Fi settings in the camera options, we advise you to redo the complete installation.

We’ll take a quick look at the parameters. First of all, when viewing the video live, you can choose the image format (auto, standard or HD), take a picture or talk via the camera (hence the interest for a baby camera…). In the camera settings, we find various entries including sharing the camera (with family members for example), activating motion detection, cloud service (recording videos in the cloud permanently or in case of detection. ATTENTION, these are paid services), the programming of a standby mode (start and end time during the camera will be switched off), motion alert (with alert on the phone in addition to the motion detection to be activated), direct standby….

And with Alexa, how’s it going?

The pairing with Alexa is done like for a bulb or a lamp: look for the devices, wait for Alexa to find it and that’s it! Look carefully to see if your camera has the camera logo, necessary for its proper functioning (considered as a camera).

From there, how do you ask your Echo Spot to display the video? Simply by saying: Alexa, watch “X”, so in our case “Alexa, watch Camera Maison”. Simple, right?

And now, thanks to this tutorial, you can easily install your camera for Alexa and use it as you wish (surveillance camera, baby phone…).
