BlitzWolf BW-SHC1 IP Security Camera Review

Among the our favorite connected objects, IP camera is a must-have. It must be said that they have become more and more democratic in recent years with the advent of the connected home. They are available at all prices. From the excellent Blink wireless cameras to the powerful Ezviz, not to mention the highly appreciated Netvue Alexa compatible cameras, there is something for everyone… And all budgets!

Generally only usable with their proprietary application, we were often asked about Tuya / Smart Life compatible models. It is true that the application proposes to connect some, but we had never seen any before. That’s why we started looking for a model of this type, and our choice was made on the BlitzWolf brand, and in particular its BW-SHC1 camera, which you will have understood, is powered by the essential Chinese platform of connected objects Tuya Smart.

BlitzWolf BW-SHC1 IP Security Camera: an original aesthetic

The BlitzWolf BW-WHC1 ip security camera comes in a quality cardboard box and is very sober. At the top is the brand and its logo and at the centre, written in general, is the camera model.

At the opening, we discover a camera dressed in white with a really original design. Its globular shape is reminiscent of an eye. A digital eye, therefore, raised by a part integrating a small motor and allowing it to rotate 355° horizontally and 110° vertically. Interesting! With a viewing angle of 80°, smaller than human vision but relatively important for a camera, its 3.6 mm fixed focal length also offers night vision up to 10 meters. What about his resolution? It is 1080p, perfect for the most demanding of us.

This BlitzWolf camera is delivered with a 5V/1A DC power adapter with a nominal power of 5W in European format, but also a plastic bracket to fix it where you want, and in the direction you want. A small bag containing two screws and two pegs is also included.

As you can see, a discreet speaker placed at the back of the car is a testament to its two-way audio functionality. In other words, you can hear directly what is happening in the room where the camera is located and even speak to people under surveillance, directly from the application of your smartphone or tablet. Practical, for example, to make it an inexpensive baby monitor.

Another good point is that you can place a micro-SD card with a capacity of up to 64 GB in it if you want to do without the cloud and keep your recordings locally. In a rather original but well thought-out way, the slot allowing it to be accommodated is placed under the lens and is therefore not visible… Not stupid! This will prevent, for example, someone from removing it in order to get rid of the images.

The manual, perfectly translated into French and without fail, it should be stressed, tells us that it can be controlled by the BlitzWolf application available under Android or iOS, and can be integrated into Amazon Alexa or Google Home. Unfortunately for us, this possibility is not yet available in France to date, but it will soon be.

Before proceeding to its installation, let’s take a look at its technical data sheet….

BlitzWolf BW-SHC1 IP Camera with Tuya Smart Life

If BlitzWolf offers its own application, downloadable on your Android or iOS awning, it should be noted that it uses the Tuya Smart platform, and that you can therefore use the famous Smart Life application, a real Swiss army knife for connected objects. This can be useful to limit the number of home automation applications on your smartphone.

BlitzWolf IP Security Camera installation

As you can see, these are very similar, except that BlitzWolf has applied its colours to them. A good point when you know the performance of the solution proposed by Tuya.

Simply click on the small + at the top right of the application’s home screen and select the procedure for installing a camera. Be careful, as often, your smartphone must be on the 2.4GHz band of your home Wi-Fi.

Once this is done, the application will generate a QR Code that you will have to place in front of your camera’s lens. A relatively classic procedure, which will launch the connection of the camera to your home Wi-Fi. All you have to do is enter your login details and the procedure to add the camera will start.

If everything goes as planned, your camera will be installed and ready to use within one minute of launching the application. Isn’t that great?

You will then discover the interface dedicated to the application’s cameras. A simple and well thought-out interface, which gives you easy access to all the features of this BlitzWolf WB-SHC1.

Using the BlitzWolf camera

Before going any further, we wanted to see if the camera “went up” in our Alexa application. Unfortunately, the answer is negative as we said earlier, which is surprising considering that it works with the Tuya Smart platform. After some research, we had to resign ourselves: Smart Life does not yet offer this feature in France. But this, it seems, will not be long in coming. The Alexians are therefore eagerly awaiting the opportunity to view the video stream on their Echo Show 2, Echo Show 5, or Echo Spot. That would undoubtedly be a big plus. We also expect Amazon to offer the ability to arm and disarm this type of device, even if it means securing it with a PIN code for example. The teams in charge of Alexa are working on the subject, we were assured.

Despite everything, this camera is really easy and pleasant to use. The interface of the application is simple and responsive, we can easily find all the features without having to search everywhere, as is too often the case. You can take captures and record videos, which will be stored on your smartphone and/or on the mico-SD card, but also direct the camera… And of course create alerts in case of motion detection!

The image quality of this BlitzWolf camera, with a resolution of 1080p, is excellent. The application allows you to choose whether you want to view it in SD or HD. Practical if your connection is a little limited, especially in mobility.

An inexpensive cloud

Another good point is that BlitzWolf offers cloud hosting. A solution that allows you to secure your images, because even if the micro-SD location of the camera is difficult to find, the smartest burglars may destroy the device, or even take it with them to get rid of it later. Whatever happens, your images are therefore secure on Tuya’s European servers, which, as you know, have opted for Amazon Web Services hosting.

Offers start at $4.49/month or $44.99/year (two months free) for 14 flowing records and 365 days of storage. A low-cost solution therefore.

In conclusion, as you will have understood, this BlitzWolf BW-SHC1 camera has checked almost all our criteria. Its pleasant design, small size, image quality and application performance make it an effective product at a lower cost. We only regret not being able to find it on Alexa, but hope to be able to classify it soon as an Alexa compatible device. In any case, we recommend it to users looking for a Smart Life / Tuya camera.
